Rationalise old NAS boxes

Possible goal: Other than main NAS above, 1 semi remote backup box

  • Possibly locate in Glasshouse or Single Gge and/or in Small fire safe
  • Use SSD, (currently have 2TB Samsung QVO in DS107)
  • Does this need to be in a NAS, could just be an external USB3?

Windows 10 PC + Raid 5 array

  • Move 4TB drive from Dell XPS2710 to this box
  • Sell options:
    • Entire PC with Raid 5 controller & at least 4 x 4TB drives
    • Sell Raid controller + caddies + some 4TB drives

Synology DS216SE

  • This is a ~2015 model
  • Sell with current 2 x 12TB drives

Synology DS212j

  • This is a ~2012 model
  • Sell with 2 x 8TB drives from DS207

Synology DS207Plus

  • This is a ~2008 model
  • Max firmware is DSM 3.1 which supports SMB1. (SMB1 has security vulnerabilities if opened to the internet)
  • Windows 10 enable SMB1:
    • Go to Control Panel–>Programs–>Turn Windows features on or off
    • Check SMB 1.0/CIFS
    • Maybe: Control Panel > File Services > Advanced > WS-Discovery > “Enable windows network discovery to allow file access via SMB”
  • Sell with 2 x 4TB

Synology DS107

Before:

Windows 10 PC (W7Server)

  • Drives:
    • 4 x 4TB in Raid 5 array
    • 1 errored so no spare currently
    • Contents: NOTHING, moved off to DS216SE and external drive
    • Todo:
      • Dell XPS2710 has 4TB data drive, clear that drive and use to provide a 4th drive for this machine then sell it possibly case and all
